Webcam test
Check your webcam before a call or a scan: see the picture, its real resolution and frame rate, and switch between cameras.
Test your webcam
Your browser will ask for permission. The video stays on this device: nothing is recorded or sent.
Working. Want to scan codes? A phone camera is better at it: the app reads QR codes and barcodes in a second.
The iPhone app- 01
Start the camera
Press Start camera and allow access when the browser asks.
- 02
Check the picture
Look at the live picture and the details below it: camera name, picture size, measured frame rate.
- 03
Try it out
Switch cameras, mirror the picture, take a snapshot to save, or turn on Read QR codes and hold a code up to it.
What the numbers mean
Picture size is what the camera really sends to the browser right now, not what the box says. 1280 × 720 is HD and 1920 × 1080 is Full HD. Many laptop cameras drop to a lower size in dim light or when another app is using them.
Frame rate is measured from the video itself. 30 fps looks smooth; under 15 fps looks jerky and usually means poor light (the camera keeps each frame open longer) or a busy USB hub.
If the camera doesn't start
Blocked: click the camera icon in the address bar (or the padlock) and allow the camera for this site. On a Mac, also check System Settings › Privacy & Security › Camera for your browser. On Windows: Settings › Privacy & security › Camera.
Busy: close Zoom, Teams, FaceTime or any other tab that uses the camera, then press Start again. Black picture: check for a privacy shutter or a camera key on the keyboard (often F8 or F10 with a camera icon).
Nothing is recorded or sent. The camera light turns off when you press Stop, switch tabs or leave the page.
How do I test my webcam?
Press Start camera on this page and allow camera access. If you see yourself, the camera works; the details show its real resolution and frame rate.
Why is my webcam not working?
Usually the browser or the system is blocking it, another app is using it, or a privacy shutter is closed. See the fixes above for Mac and Windows.
Is the video recorded or uploaded?
No. The picture goes from your camera to this page in your browser and nowhere else. Snapshots are only saved if you press Save.
Why is my webcam picture dark or grainy?
Webcams have small sensors. Face a window or a lamp, avoid strong light behind you, and clean the lens. Low light also lowers the frame rate.
How do I switch to another camera?
When more than one camera is found, a menu appears on the video. Pick the external webcam (or the phone camera on a phone).
Why does my webcam look mirrored?
Preview pictures are mirrored so moving feels natural, like a mirror. Others on a call see you the right way round. Use the Mirror button to switch.
