Scan a food barcode to see what's inside
Scan the barcode on a food product and QR Code Scan Kit shows its name and photo, a health grade from A to E, sugar, fat and salt levels, how processed it is and its additives. The data comes from Open Food Facts, a free public database, and it's a guide to compare products, not medical advice.
- 01
Scan the barcode
Point the camera at the EAN or UPC barcode on the pack, or type the number.
- 02
See the product
Its name, brand, size and photo appear when it's in the database.
- 03
Compare
The grade and the sugar, fat and salt levels make two products easy to compare on the shelf.
Where the data comes from
Open Food Facts (and Open Beauty Facts for cosmetics) are free databases anyone can improve. Only the barcode number is sent to look the product up.
Not found?
The card says which country's GS1 office issued the number, and explains when it's a shop's own code or a book.
Saved with its name
Products appear by name in your history, so you can find them again.
- No allergen, gluten, halal or price checks. Always read the label if you have an allergy.
- Coverage depends on the country; some products are missing or out of date and can be fixed at openfoodfacts.org.
What does the health grade mean?
It's a score from A (better) to E (less good) worked out from nutrients per 100 g, taken from Open Food Facts. It helps compare similar products.
Does it show allergens?
No. QR Code Scan Kit doesn't check allergens, gluten or halal status. Read the pack.
Why can't it find my product?
Not every product is in Open Food Facts yet, especially local brands. You can add it at openfoodfacts.org and it will show up for everyone.
